Florida Votes for Immorality

Based on the election results map at http://www.google.com/elections/ed/us/results that has since been taken down, Florida has re-elected President Barack Obama, and Senator Bill Nelson.  This map also shows most districts elected Republican Representatives with the final count being 21 Republicans, and 5 Democrats.  What does this say about us as Floridians?  A general observation is that most of the population centers of the state, such as in the Miami-Dade & Palm Beach County areas as well as Orlando to name a few, are overwhelmingly Democratic and liberal, and their percentage of the state population is enough to decide the Presidency and Senate.  Those who live in the more rural and smaller population areas of the state such as Wakulla County (where I live) & Leon County (home of our capital city of Tallahassee) as well as Escambia County to name a few, are mostly politically conservative and voted Republican.

Please consider voting and even obedience to all laws of the land in light of Acts 4: 18-20, “So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.  But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.  For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

Would this principle of putting God’s will revealed in the Bible as a higher authority than civil government affect any votes you have cast in the past?  I hope it will influence your future votes, and most importantly encourage you to read the Bible, especially the New Testament of Jesus Christ that we are under today, to see God’s guidance for an abundant life saved by His grace.   

With this in mind I want us to look back at two amendments that were on our ballot. The information concerning the content of the amendments came from http://collinscenter.org/2012flamendments/home-2/.

 

Amendment 1: Health Care Services

A “yes” vote means you want the Florida Constitution to include a provision that prohibits the government from requiring you to purchase health insurance.

A “no” vote means you do not want the Florida Constitution to include a provision that prohibits the government from requiring you to purchase health insurance.

It is possible some voted “no”, because they felt it was an unlawful amendment after the Supreme Court made the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) the law of the land.  Others undoubtedly voted “no”, because they believe this Federal mandate is a good idea to ensure the funding of what they believe will be a better health insurance system for the nation.  I voted “yes” for many reasons that concern me on many levels as a citizen of the United States and Florida.   

My main questions to those who voted “no”, because they believe this is a beneficial government act are simply this:  Are you in favor of more abortions at later stages of pregnancy including partial birth abortion?  Are you in favor of having your tax dollars fund these abortions?  

For those who voted “no” because they felt it was an act of rebellion against the ruling of the Supreme Court I have three questions.  Do you believe God approves of any or even most of the abortions that take place?  Do you believe God’s law is higher than the laws of man including an ungodly ruling by the Supreme Court?  Do you believe a state can take every legal measure of protest against such a law since we have the right to put forth and vote on any proposal as an amendment to our state constitution? 

Amendment 6:  Prohibition on Public Funding of Abortions; Construction of Abortion Rights

A “yes” vote means you support putting the existing federal ban on the use of public funds for abortions into the state constitution; and you support eliminating the state’s privacy right with respect to a woman’s right to choose.

A “no” vote means you are against placing the existing federal ban on using public funds for abortions into the state constitution; and you are against eliminating the state’s privacy right with respect to a woman’s right to choose.

I voted “yes”, because the existing federal ban is being nullified by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  More importantly, I voted “yes” as a citizen of Florida, because I do not want my state tax dollars being used to fund abortions.  In addition to these two amendments, it should be noted that Senator Bill Nelson and President Barack Obama promote legalized abortions on demand.  Also, the 21 Democrat Representatives elected by Florida belong to the political party that  is at the forefront of not only keeping abortion legal, but expanding the criteria for allowing more abortions including partial-birth abortions.  It is true that some in the Republican party also agree with these political positions, and have served temper the tenacity of this party to fight for laws that would reduce the number of abortions taking place. 

There are other issues I could mention that concern me about this past election, but this needs to be spoken to from a moral standpoint.  These types of activities directly impact us individually, Florida as a state, and America as a nation in determining if we will receive the blessings of God or the wrath of God.  Ultimately, they impact this world.  They impact our very person and even our ability to truly understand what it means to love one another.  Love is about sacrificing something we have or even our own lives for the sake of another's well-being (Philippians 2: 1-11).  

Again I ask; do you believe God approves of any or even most of the abortions that take place?

Exodus 21: 22-25 “If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.  But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.”

Recognize that it is the unborn child and whether or not that child is born healthy, injured or dead that determines the punishment for the man who acted violently.  This child is a human life and under the old law of God given through Moses the principle of a life for a life was literally applied.  This man would be put to death if the child was born dead or born with a mortal injury.
